The protagonist of this case is the CEO of Banpu Power, a listed company in Thailand, and it considers success factors of its power plant business and management development. While the Banpu Group, which was originally established as a coal mining company, extends its business into thermal power generation, renewable energy and power retailing, the company also extends its portfolio geographically. The power plant business of Banpu Power is successful because of two factors: Cash and risk management and stakeholder management by formal and informal relationship. This case discusses how Banpu Power, working on power retailing business in Japan, should develop the next generation management in the drastic change of the external environment.
