Through this course you will gain not only a theoretical understanding of corporate value creation but also tangible links between corporate strategies and value creation by studying several cases. While companies in the United States and the United Kingdom have given the most weight to shareholders, companies in Japan and the continental Europe are concerned with the continuity of the business in the interests of their stakeholders. An interesting question to ask is whether or not other stakeholders suffer if managers pursue shareholder value.
You will learn that managers should focus less on recent short term financial performance but more on developing sound corporate and business strategies and creating value over the longer term. You will also learn that the company’s planning and performance management systems should be aligned with value creation.
