Individuals, unlike corporations, consume and save. The economic activities of individuals include a variety of activities that cannot be captured by profit-making alone. For this reason, individuals have more diverse planning factors than corporations. This lecture is designed to help students understand the individual income tax system from a tax planning perspective, to understand why the system is the way it is, and to understand the mechanisms by which taxes affect individual consumption and savings decisions. We will conduct learning about taxes as learning to think and practice, rather than simply acquiring knowledge.
