L' Institut Francais du Japon 2012
Abstract
Cultural action of France abroad has been undergoing drastic changes since January 2011 and the creation of l'Institut francais in France, agency for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Similarly to what has been taking place around the world, the Cultural Service of the Embassy in Japan and the four Instituts Franco-japonais in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto and Fukuoka will merge into one flagship institution, l'Institut francais du Japon, an extension of its parent institution in France. In addition to this organizational shift, the entire cultural network in Japan, comprising five Alliance francaises (association for the promotion of French language and culture), the French school of Kansai, the International French high school of Tokyo, the Franco-Japanese house(research center), and the Villa Kujoyama (artists' residence in Kyoto) will be redesigned to ensure synergies and a new momentum driven by l'Institut francais du Japon. the challenge isn't about a slight change in the name of these institutions but rather about successfully managing change in their corporate culture.
