Softbank 2015

#Robotics #Softbank #Acquisition

Abstract

This case is about Softbank’s acquisition of Aldebaran Robotics, a French robotics company developing the most advanced personal robots (in terms of hardware and groundbreaking software). The case puts first the emphasis on a fast-growing, full of opportunities industry. Even though this case is mostly about personal robotics, it can be used to foster the general interest of students on the promising robotics industry as a whole. But this case is mainly about an acquisition which seems rather successful at first sight but that is actually facing significant managerial issues.
