Human Resource Management: Cultivating and Retaining Top Talent

NEW #MBA

Human Resource Management (HRM) at NUCB Business School, taught by Professor Ray Hui, equips students with a strategic understanding of HRM's role in driving organizational success. The course aims to deepen students' insights into contemporary HRM issues, from talent management systems to global HRM strategies. It emphasizes critical thinking and prepares students to navigate complex HRM challenges. By engaging with real-world case studies, students not only gain academic knowledge but also develop the practical skills necessary for managing human resources effectively in the fast-changing global business landscape. Professor Hui's extensive experience in HRM, coupled with his academic expertise, ensures that students leave the course with the knowledge and skills needed to become effective HR leaders in a global context.

On Day 2, the class delved into two crucial HRM themes: talent management systems and work-life balance. Using real-world cases on Hong Kong Broadband Network’s innovative approach to talent management and Changi General Hospital's approach to work-life balance, students explored how organizations can develop sustainable talent management systems. These case studies highlighted the importance of retaining top talent while ensuring a healthy work-life balance, especially in high-pressure industries like healthcare. Professor Hui encouraged students to critically assess how HR practices can align with organizational goals, promoting both productivity and employee well-being.

The course's blend of theory and practical application fosters a deep understanding of HRM's strategic role in modern businesses. By analyzing HRM strategies through case discussions, students gain the tools needed to create inclusive and effective HR policies. They are encouraged to think about how HRM can contribute to the competitive advantage of businesses and foster positive work environments.
