Abstract

Since its creation in 2008, Airbnb disrupted the old industry of hospitality with the exploitation of an underestimated asset: private homes. But as the company kept expanding, some scandals appeared, while some anger from the hotel industry and governments rose. As copycats Wimdu and 9flats increased their market share, tightening the noose around the competitive advantage got from a first-mover advantage, Airbnb is now in urge to find some space to develop itself sustainably. Moreover, even if Airbnb get good coverage from medias and is now valuated 10$ billion since a 500$ million funding done in April 2014, we should analyze the company behind the smokescreen: is Airbnb going to be a sustainable business in the future?
