ORANGE 2016
Abstract
With a 40 billion euros turnover and 263 million of clients worldwide in 2015, the multinational company Orange is the leader on the French telecommunications market ahead of its three main competitors: SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom. In 2016, Orange has been at the center of attention as the company attempted to buy back Bouygues Telecom which was on sale due to financial difficulties. As a late player Bouygues struggled to find its place on the market before being hit hard by Free’s arrival that started an unprecedented price war between operators. The French telecom market being highly regulated by the State, any convergence attempt has an impact on the whole industry. The case strives to answer the following question: is the Bouygues Telecom’s acquisition the best way for Orange to reach its objectives ?
