Abstract

Amr Adely, the next president of Egypt Japan university of science and technology, is facing a mission to convince the university board of trustees of his new strategy to implement a knowledge-sharing digital system. Despite the completion of previous knowledge-sharing projects, trials were unsuccessful and failed to meet management's expectations. But. Adly believed that developing a digitalized infrastructure for information sharing among employees and departments would assist the university in establishing an efficient and professional working system akin to the Japanese business model. Moreover, it would contribute to the achievement of the goals and expectations of the Egyptian and Japanese governments' collaboration. As long as the Japanese government, represented by JICA, consider to continue the collaboration and assist EJUST only if the unrealized targets are met. JICA's main goal was to help EJUST establish a successful knowledge management system to implement the efficient and professional working environment in EJUST. Prof. Adely knows very well that his new mission in EJUST will be challenging due to the neglect of the internal environment from the previous headship. Also, the pressure from the university board of trustees and the government to position the university as a typical model for a Japanese university with the fierce competition witnessed in higher education in Egypt affects Adly`s situation. Moreover, the time pressure of the JICA project completion in 2024 with the risk of affecting the Egypt – Japan Education partnership if they weren’t satisfied with the achieved results. The case tends to understand the strategies used to create a successful knowledge environment. Moreover, Evaluate the efficiency of implementing a knowledge management system and the proper recipe to get the excellence of sustaining knowledge practices. The case challenges the students to determine the main reason for inefficiencies and conflict that hinder the realization of knowledge management practices.
