Sung Soo Eric Kim
Associate Professor
Biography
Sung Soo Eric Kim is a leading authority on AI strategy, serving as Associate Professor at NUCB Business School and Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Business, Yonsei University. His research examines how artificial intelligence changes the decision structure of the firm, shifting who holds information, who decides, and who is held accountable, and how it transforms the way organizations produce knowledge and innovate. His work extends to the semiconductor industry, where competition among firms and among states has become inseparable.
In 2024, when few business schools anywhere taught the subject, Kim developed the "AI Strategy for Business" curriculum, the first of its kind in East Asia. He has since taught it at top business schools including NUCB Business School, Keio Business School, Waseda Business School, the National Taiwan University Global MBA, and SKK GSB. He has also developed three new courses at NUCB: AI and Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurship and AI, and AI for Executives.
For audiences in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, Kim comments on artificial intelligence and semiconductor strategy, appearing regularly in outlets such as CNN, Le Figaro, the Chosun Daily, Arirang News, TaiwanPlus, and China Daily. He served on the Korea-Swiss Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation, and speaks regularly before visiting government delegations from Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the European Union, as well as the American Chamber of Commerce and the European Chamber of Commerce.
Before joining NUCB Business School, Kim founded Datacrunch Global, a company that supports corporate decision making through data science and artificial intelligence. He led the company for more than a decade, building extensive operating experience in the field. Kim continues to counsel chairs of global corporations in a range of industries on artificial intelligence strategy and semiconductor competition, and has advised major multinational corporations on international M&A transactions involving global private equity funds. He also serves as an advisor to DIGITIMES, Taiwan's leading technology and semiconductor media and research group.
Kim currently serves on the boards of the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration and the Korean Society of Strategic Management. He previously held appointments as Distinguished Guest Associate Professor at Keio University Business School and as Visiting Associate Professor at Waseda Business School and at the College of Management, National Taiwan University.
