Asia’s Top Institutions Unite to Launch Groundbreaking Family Business Research Consortium

On April 1, 2025, NUCB Business School announced the official launch of a collaborative initiative, the Family Business Research Consortium, among four leading family business research centers in Asia.

This landmark effort brings together the NUCB Business School Center for Family Business (Japan), Taylor's University Center for Family Business (Malaysia), HKUST Roger King Center for Asia Family Business and Family Office (Hong Kong), and the Sasin Asian Family Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Center (Thailand).

The Consortium is designed to foster cutting-edge research on family businesses across Asia. While the long-term vision is to build a robust academic network around the subject, initial attention is focused on one of its key initiatives: the collaborative development and management of original business cases. These cases will be freely shared among the participating institutions and used extensively for both academic research and educational purposes.

This initiative is already generating significant attention in the academic community. By sharing high-quality, locally rooted case studies, the Consortium aims to not only strengthen research output but also enhance the teaching capabilities of the business schools to which each center belongs. This dual impact—on research and education—highlights the Consortium’s strategic value and far-reaching potential. Each of the four centers is internationally recognized as a leader in family business research within its respective region. Their cooperation signals a new era of regional collaboration that is expected to dramatically accelerate the development of knowledge in the field. In addition, the initiative has begun to attract interest from global scholars and research institutions working in family business and family office studies.

The Secretariat of the Consortium is housed at NUCB Business School, which plays a central coordinating role.  NUCB Business School's leadership is expected to provide both organizational stability and strategic direction as the Consortium evolves.

As family businesses continue to shape economies across Asia and beyond, the launch of this Consortium represents a major step toward establishing Asia as a global hub for family business research and education.
