The Society for Business Succession Research Meeting (Chubu Region)

Business succession is one of the most important management issues for the sustainable growth and survival of long-established family businesses. Normally, successors face many constraints in their relationship with their predecessors. On the other hand, since successors are born into a family with a direct lineage to the head of the family, they are guaranteed a position of autonomy different from that of ordinary employees and can be said to be faced with the dilemma of constraints and autonomy. In this study group, we will consider how successors can overcome this dilemma of constraint and autonomy, using actual cases of succession in long-established family businesses.
