Abstract

Fast Retailing is a fashion retailer currently ranked 1st in Japan, and 4th in the world. The name brand it operates is called Uniqlo. While fighting to achieve dominance in the local market, the CEO, Tadashi Yanai, set plans to aggressive expand worldwide in 2005. An attempt was made to enter the U.S. through New Jersey in 2006, but it wasn’t very successful. In 2007, Fast Retailing closed 3 of its 4 Uniqlo stores and regrouped to plan their next move. Fast Retailing began making its move again by opening 2 more flagship stores in New York City in 2010 in addition to the one that had remained there. In October 2012, the first West Coast store opened in San Francisco. Uniqlo had adopted a strategy of opening large flagship stores while aggressively marketing and appealing to the trendy market.
