Circular economies, soup dumplings: studying sustainability with Taiwan Tech

After years of cancellations due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, the long-awaited study tour in Taiwan was finally held in the latter half of this past February. Over 40 participants representing Japanese- and English-taught programs came along for an exciting, thought-provoking, and incredibly enriching experience in the country's capital city of Taipei, hosted by our partners and colleagues at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, better known as Taiwan Tech.

Titled "Sustainable Innovation in Taiwan Study Tour," the program engaged participants in an examination of sustainability from both academic and business perspectives, requiring participants to use all five of their senses to explore the topic throughout a series of lectures, company visits, and networking sessions.

The visits brought our students to the offices and factories of a manufacturer of sustainable skincare and wellness products, Taiwan's #1 whiskey distillery, and a produce supplier using vertical farming techniques in the move toward localization in food and beverage.

Our school will continue proudly hosting these unique immersive experiences, bringing together students from all programs and campuses united by the desire to add value to their degree programs by experiencing other cultures and businesses outside of Japan for themselves.
