Egypt's Top Researchers Join Three-Week Leadership Development Program in Japan

NUCB Business School kicked off a three-week Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Leadership Development Program this January, welcoming a delegation of Egyptian researchers and academics under the framework of the Egypt–Japan Education Partnership (EJEP). The program is sponsored by the Egyptian government with support from JICA, and organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Egypt in Japan.

Designed for mid-career researchers and future academic leaders, the program brings together participants from universities and research institutions across Egypt. Through a combination of classroom instruction, case-based learning, and site visits, the program provides practical insight into Japan’s STI ecosystem, higher education governance, and industry–academia collaboration.

The academic component is structured around three core themes: the development of science, technology, and innovation. Sessions are led by NUCB faculty and guest speakers, including Professor Kenji Yokoyama, Professor Katsunobu Sasanuma, and Professor Hoe Chin Goi, and focus on leadership, strategic planning, innovation policy, and institutional management within higher education and research contexts.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through visits to universities, research facilities, museums, and innovation hubs. Planned visits include Nagoya University, Toyota Institute of Technology, Station AI, and the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, offering participants opportunities to observe how Japanese institutions connect research, education, and industry to support innovation and regional development.

By combining academic perspectives with firsthand exposure to Japanese institutions, the program aims to strengthen participants’ leadership capacity and support Egypt’s efforts to translate scientific research into societal and economic impact. Through initiatives such as this, NUCB Business School continues to serve as a partner for government-sponsored international capacity-building programs linking education, innovation, and leadership development.
