Do working people need a 《Ph.D.》? - Part 1

#MBA #Japan

The graduation season is around the corner. Now, most of you must want to pursue a Ph.D. after obtaining a master's degree. A Ph.D. is a degree given to those who have completed a doctoral course (Department of Ph.D. degree courses at some universities), and it is classified as Doctor (Economics), Doctor (Business Administration), or Doctor (Law) according to the field of research. From the perspective of recruitment, it is essential to obtain a doctorate for research careers, such as a professor at a university or a researcher in a company.

It should be noted, however, that there is a risk of mismatch in recruitment needs as the specialized fields will focus on research topics in enrolment for doctoral courses. It can sound strange that research topics are set in consideration of careers, and it is important not to go overboard. However, please choose the research topics wisely as they can influence your lives forever.

On a side note, it is not uncommon for someone to work as a university professor without a Ph.D., but this may be considered unusual in countries around the world. The reason is that it is extremely difficult to obtain Ph.D. in Japan in the field of sociology. The challenge is that there are many uncertainties, such as differences in policies (regimented teachings such as stating that there can be only one student who can be conferred a Ph.D. in one's lifetime, or something like an heir) depending on each advisor.
