Case Method Orientation
Not many business schools in Japan hold the international accreditation that serves as evidence of quality in the curriculum and learning provided by the institution. In fact, there are only two schools that have dual accreditation from the top three accreditation bodies known as AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The NUCB Business School is one of these two top-tier business schools with dual accreditation.
Even more rare is finding a business school in Japan that delivers a medium of instruction using purely case method. Here too, the NUCB Business School stands out as not only one of the only schools in Japan with case method – but applies it to Japanese language and English Master degree programs. This style of learning positions the faculty as more of a facilitator than lecturer, and students learn from each others’ diverse professional experiences as much as they learn from the faculty in the discussions. Utilizing this pedagogy effectively itself requires special training and practical experience, which is why the NUCB Business School sends faculty to the Harvard Business School seminars on case method teaching throughout the year to understand better this method of instruction.
All new students in the Global Leader Program – whether they are enrolled as regular degree students or short-term exchange students – were introduced to the case method style of teaching by NUCB Business School veteran faculty member Prof. Nigel Denscombe. Using the NUS Business School/ Ivey Publishing case on Yamato Transport: Replicating Japanese Success in Singapore, students experienced that practical application of large group discussion and separated into the break-out rooms for the first time to catch a glimpse of what the intensive weekday and weekend classes are going to be like at the NUCB Business School.
The NUCB Business School has 113 elite global partner institutions in 51 countries around the world. As the most globally oriented business school in Central Japan and one of the top leading business schools in all of Japan, the emphasis on study abroad and international exchange is a key driver of the mission at the NUCB Business School.
