Harvard Business Publishing: Case Method Teaching Seminar

#MBA #HBP #Event #Workshop #CaseMethod #Pedagogy

The NUCB Business School welcomed Harvard Business Publishing as the host of a Case Method Teaching Seminar Part 1 for an all-day intensive seminar. In this case, the faculty adopted the roles of students as they learned how to produce high-quality case method teaching while using case method.

The general summary of the seminar was to offer faculty the simultaneous experience of being an instructor and being a student. From the perspective of instructors, faculty learned ways to orchestrate discussion among students, room dynamics, preparation and evaluation. From the perspective of students, faculty had to use cases such as “Nantucket Nectars” to go through the process of case study preparation and engaging in discussion.

Faculty from some of the top business schools in Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan and India joined in this seminar, which is the first part of a two-part program. The facilitator of the seminar was Professor Bill Schiano, a Professor of Computer Information Systems at Bentley University. Professor Schiano led an exciting and motivating seminar full of energy that brought out several key techniques unique to the participants that composed this particular group. Professor Schiano has also published numerous articles on a variety of topics including co-authorship of “Teaching with Cases: A Practical Guide.” The NUCB Business School is proud to share the facilities of the Nagoya Marunouchi Tower Campus (which were designed by the blueprint of HBS in Boston) with Harvard and top-tier business schools in the Asia Region.
