The Osaka Campus has been operating face-to-face classes since the fall semester of 2020, observing ventilation and social distance and taking thorough measures against viral infection.
This class cultivates the logical thinking skills that are the basis for "thinking and communicating" in market analysis, planning proposals, and presentations. While learning the basics of strategy theories and methods, the class will focus on strategy and strategic thinking, which is the most essential part of logical thinking, through realistic discussions with lecturers with rich practical experience through various cases.
The first day of the class started with a case study of Nintendo, a company that dominated the Japanese and US video game markets in the 80s and 90s, to understand "What is strategic thinking? The first day of the class started with understanding "What is strategic thinking? Mr. Yamauchi's words, "There is only one strong company, and the rest are all weak," clearly expresses the success of Nintendo, which outperformed other leading Japanese companies such as Sony and Nissan in terms of stock market value. In the class discussion, we deeply analyzed the shift in the strategic paradigm and the factors behind the success of Nintendo, such as rebuilding and halfway monopolizing the game market, selling Nintendo's hardware (NES) at low prices and making money from software (games), from the viewpoints of competitors, software developers, hardware manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. We also analyzed the success factors from the perspectives of competitors, software developers, hardware manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. Under the theme of games, which everyone is familiar with, and guided by Professor Yuji Nagasawa's lively facilitation laced with humor, the students expressed their opinions one after another with smiles on their faces, leading to a heated discussion. Professor Yuji Nagasawa's class was full of enthusiasm, reminding us that even if we are physically distant from each other due to the social situation caused by the corona disaster, there is no distance in learning. Through the four-day class, students will learn basic elements of strategy (external environment analysis, internal environment analysis, strategy formulas, and frameworks for strategy planning and execution) as well as basic strategic thinking, conception, and logical thinking as an MBA.
