MBA "Entrepreneur & Strategy" by Professor Yuji Nagasawa was launched.

Professor Yuji Nagasawa, Entrepreneur & Strategy

In this class, we will pursue the "essence of strategy" from the perspective of entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs who are in the early stages of their company's business development and growth are faced with rapid changes in their internal and external environments on a daily basis, and are forced to make important decisions on whether or not to revise their strategies in response to these changes. These decisions have three characteristics: urgency in the sense that the company's survival is always at stake, uncertainty in the sense that the company's footing is always unstable, and constraint in the sense that the available resources are always depleted. Through case discussions, we will relive the dynamism of such strategy formulation and revision to get closer to the "essence of strategy.

Learning Entrepreneurship and Management Philosophy through the Cases of Kazuo Inamori

Entrepreneur & Strategy

On the third day of the class, we used the case of "Kazuo Inamori", the founder of Kyocera and Daini-Denden (now KDDI). To begin with, we thoroughly analyzed the two management philosophies of Kazuo Inamori, who has been the head of Kyocera for nearly 50 years, demonstrating charismatic leadership. The first is "Amoeba Management," a management method to increase productivity by enhancing entrepreneurial spirit, which Inamori created because he feared that as the company grew, the "entrepreneurial spirit" of each employee would be lost. The other is the "Kyocera Philosophy," a set of guidelines for how employees should work and live, based on the management philosophy of pursuing the happiness of all employees and at the same time contributing to the progress and development of humanity and society, which was established after negotiations with a group of dissatisfied employees.

Based on this, the case questions posed by Professor Yuji Nagasawa were: "Should the next generation of leaders inherit Inamori's philosophy?" and "Will Kyocera be able to continue to prosper in the future when Inamori, the charismatic leader who has led innovation, is no longer with us? By discussing these case questions, the students examined not only how to be a business leader, but also what kind of management philosophy they should have when they become entrepreneurs in the future.
