Prof. Osamu Ueda conducted the Enterprise Turnaround Strategy course, an elective module for MBA students of the Global Leader Program. This course is designed for foreign students who are interested in the management of Japanese companies facing turnaround situations. In this course, participants analyze various turnaround situations which Japanese major companies faced and overcame in the last two decades. Students also review and observe how global companies of the West operate in comparison to Japanese corporations.
In the first session, Prof. Ueda introduced the success of a famous Japanese automaker under a non-Japanese CEO and discussed how the traditional business strategies of the company were discarded in favor of modern solutions. The professor also highlighted different business models supported by cases about Japanese companies. Course participants drew upon their own experiences and provided comparisons to situations they had faced in their careers.
