A Beautiful Spring Day for Spring 2026’s First Cultural Enrichment Trip

NEW

On a beautiful spring day, our students visited the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology to explore Toyota’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers.

Throughout the visit, students learned about Toyota’s history, from its origins in textile machinery to the development of the global automotive brand we know today. Exhibits covered everything from branding and name changes to the evolution of Toyota’s manufacturing philosophy and innovative industrial practices.

Students were especially interested in the story behind the company’s name change from Toyoda to Toyota. What initially seemed like a small branding decision turned out to have much deeper significance, reflecting marketing strategy, ease of pronunciation, visual appeal in Japanese script, and even cultural beliefs around luck and prosperity. It was a strong example of how branding decisions can have a lasting impact on a company’s identity and global success.

Students were also fascinated by the casting and shaping process used in vehicle production, which demonstrated how raw materials are transformed into precision components. Many were impressed by the speed and accuracy of the automated spot welders, which highlighted the advanced technology and efficiency behind modern vehicle manufacturing.

The visit provided valuable insight not only into engineering and production, but also into business strategy, innovation, and the importance of continuous improvement.

This was the first of our Spring 2026 cultural enrichment experiences, and we are excited to continue sharing these opportunities with our students throughout the semester. With more visits already planned, we look forward to giving students even more chances to explore Japanese industry, culture, and business beyond the classroom.
