Twice each year at the NUCB Business School, Graduate School of Management courses are held over three days at the main campus in downtown Nagoya which bring together students across all programs and across all campuses. January 12-14 was the first set of joint session courses in 2019. Students from the Tokyo and Osaka satellite campuses rarely have a chance to enroll in courses at the Nagoya Marunouchi Tower Campus and network with their classmates across Japan so this opportunity is a way to provide these encounters.

In addition to bringing students across geographical locations together, the courses are intermixed as elective core courses which means EMBA, MBA and MSc students have the chance to see new perspectives and learn in new ways that may be different from their base program. At the same time, students earn core credits towards graduation to provide more incentive to step outside their comfort zone.

Courses offered in this joint session period included Risk Management and Sustainability, Corporate Governance, Financing of Innovation, Enterprise Turnaround Strategy, Strategic Change Leadership and Corporate Mission & Strategy.

For the students in the Global Leader Program taking Prof. Marius Ungerer’s (visiting professor, University of Stellenbosch in South Africa) course in Strategic Change Leadership who welcomed EMBA and MBA students from the Japanese language program, it was a valuable opportunity to learn the Japanese approach to leadership and change management from their perspective.

The next合同講義is scheduled for July 2019 – see you all in Nagoya then!
