Clear governance principles are necessary for good governance. Major donors to nonprofit organizations, namely commercial corporations in Japan, should take the lead in clarifying the governance principles of nonprofits.

企業による社会貢献の必要性が認識される中で、日本企業は全体として年平均で5000億円弱の寄付金を、公益性の高い指定寄付金や特定公益増進法人に供出している。しかし、日本企業は、寄付金の供出には一定の関心を有するが、その寄付金がいかなる活動に用いられているかについては、関心が薄いように思われる。
