Sumitomo Vitality 2019
アブストラクト
In 2017 Japan had the highest life expectancy age, but there was a large gap between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy which is defined as the duration of life in good health for men and women, the healthy life expectancy was about 9 and 12 years less for men and women respectively than the life expectancy average. Lifestyle diseases or non-communicable diseases (NCDs) where determined to be the leading cause of death amongst Japanese. These lifestyle diseases accounted for roughly 30 % of all healthcare expenses. Tobacco use and high blood pressure were the two major contributors for adult mortality (probability that those who have reached age 15 will die before reaching age 60) and thus one of the major causes of Japans discrepancy between healthy life expectancy and life expectancy and requirement for nursing care in old age. Hashimoto Masahiro CEO of Sumitomo Life, a Life insurance provider in Japan with approximately 7 million policyholders understood that unless the disparity between healthy life expectancy and life expectancy was decreased this would affect his company negatively as the amount of claims related to medical care would only increase. He needed to get his clients healthier by them becoming more active. He had read about a South African company called Discovery that was successfully incentivising clients to exercise around the world with its behavioural economics theory driven Vitality Wellness Program and decided to partner with them to become Sumitomo Vitality. Now could the vitality program deliver the same results in Japan as it had in other countries?
