Mr. Agyeman Budu resumed the responsibility of the CEO of ECG after the PDS scandal broke in 2019,succeeding Mr. Samuel, who served as CEO of the company for three years. The times of Mr. Agyeman Budu's resumption as CEO are not ordinary because of the high expectation surrounding his appointment, especially when ECG is on the verge of collapsing if nothing is done quickly to remedy the situation. The company is cash strapped, and its financials are nothing to write about, coupled with employees going on strike due to job security. There is also the inauguration of new board members who are tasked by the minister for energy to find a lasting solution to ECG's problems. In addition, the government (a significant stakeholder) appointed a new governing body to monitor the activities of SOEs in the country. The pressure from Ghanaian pupils who are also customers of ECG and the hard times due to COVID 19 as well as doing the same thing that has been done over the year will not yield good results for ECG. Thus, Mr. Agyeman Budu has to find a short to a long-term solution to the underperforming company? What should be the CEO's strategy in changing the situation of ECG? What is the leadership role required to lead a successful turnaround? What detailed action plan is needed to implement the new strategy? The case study will use the turnaround matrix to explore the main problem facing ECG. The leadership role needed to solve the problems identified using the management,leadership and transformational leader overlap matrix. Finally, finding a detailed action plan to overcome the challenges.
